A full digital detox is hard when so much of life is online. The realistic goal is a better relationship with screens — and a jigsaw puzzle is a perfect tool for that.
Screens aren't the problem — how we use them is
The issue with most screen time is that it's passive, endless and attention-fragmenting. A puzzle flips all three: it's active, it ends, and it asks for single, focused attention.
How a puzzle supports a detox
- Replace, don't just remove. It's far easier to swap scrolling for a puzzle than to white-knuckle "less phone."
- It calms the nervous system. Quiet, absorbing focus is the opposite of feed-induced restlessness — see stress relief.
- It's finite by design. When the picture's done, you're done — a natural stopping point a feed never gives you.
Make it your default
Pick a regular moment — morning coffee, the commute, before bed — and make a puzzle the thing you reach for. Build the daily habit and the scrolling shrinks on its own.
